From Brooklyn to Kalispell, Montana
Yesterday the club took a Google Earth journey from PS 154 to Kalispell, MT. Kalispell is a city of 140,000 people and is located in northwestern Montana. Kalispell is home to Glacier High School and another Trout in the Classroom program. At Glacier, the students are raising redband rainbow trout and west slope cutthroat trout, as compared to the brown trout we are raising. In preparation for a future Skype session with Glacier's earth science teacher and a 16-year old student leader at the school, our students took some time to research these new species of trout. The students developed questions that they hope to ask, ranging from questions about pH levels and ammonia levels to questions about buildings that they saw in the Google Earth satellite images. We are planning for the Skype session to take place next week. We expect that this will be a great opportunity for the kids to learn something about other species of trout and, in addition, learn a bit about what school is like in Montana.
